The second book I read is POST: A Look at the Influence of Post-Hardcore by Eric Grubbs. In this book the author goes into the influences post hardcore has on modern music. It has chapters of Dischord Records, Jawbox, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Braid, The Promise Ring, Hot Water Music, The Get Up Kids, At the Drive-In, and Jimmy Eat World. Each of these either musical groups or record labels started and spread post hardcore ideals and musical influence.
I think this book will be very helpful because it has copious amounts of information about the beginning of post hardcore. Unlike other books or resources I've used, it has information about the record labels signing the bands also. Unlike my last book it has a lot of information showing the influence of the musical change in post hardcore. The one thing this book doesn't have is the interviews like the last book I read, but because of that it will be more useful in research.
Mackenzie,
ReplyDeleteI think that your natural interest of this topic will serve well for you. Because the topic you chose is such a wide one, it will be interesting to see what you narrow it down to. I would love to find out how you will connect this to some of the topics we've discussed in humanities class. Maybe you could write about the impact of post hardcore on the relationship between people and music (I'm thinking religious, cultural, other aspects). Good luck!
Mackenzie,
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds like it has a lot of useful information, but I feel like this could be a bit overwhelming because you have a lot of information you could use. Do you know what the main focus of your paper will be? Maybe you could focus on one band or label mentioned in your book and discuss their impact on Post-Hardcore culture. Focusing on more than one or two bands or labels might make your paper a bit cluttered and and confusing to read. Nice post, and good luck on your paper!
