Human Brain and Art, Beauty, Truth

Art
The creative mind is what drives humans. Even in what's not visual art, it had to be created. Therefore art is in everything we know of and ingrained in what humans are. To think of art is to think of the artists own truth, their own perception. Not all art is however beautiful but it is truthful, even when it's not reality, because truth is only perception.
Beauty
Beauty is an illusion. As humans we covet what is rare or extraordinary. In times when food was scarce larger bodies were wanted, and in times when food is plentiful thin bodies are desired. Beauty is an illusion because perfect is always unobtainable. But we as humans are driven for that unobtainable thing, whether it be another person or entity. Much like the search of beautiful art, it is unobtainable to be perfect. The perception of what we actually see and what we think we can achieve is a gap that we will never obtain. This is truth.
Truth
No truth can exist. We all perceive things differently. What we think of as truth is completely different in the mind of another. So truth is the same as perception. What we think of truth now will change because nothing is permanent, therefore nothing can be or will obtain ultimate, permanent truth.

  1. Mackenzie,
I love what you've said here about each of the three terms, especially truth. I agree that not all art is entirely truthful, in fact I would challenge that really no art is, as any artist is bound to be influenced by some form of bias while creating their piece(s). I also like what you said about beauty as an illusion; at least when referring to material beauty. While inner beauty may be a concept that I have formed in my own mind, I do feel that it is a very real thing and is at least as important to the outside world as material beauty. Beauty is only a term, at least to me, and a poisonous one at that. The word "beauty" has become construed to only describe near physical perfection, and that in itself is a crime. No word should ever have the power that the term beauty has - and it could be argued that art and truth, however misleading they may be, may also have more power than is appropriate.

  2. Mackenzie,

There are definitely some interesting points in your post. It was interesting how you said that art is what drives humans. I know that you are the kind of person who incorporates art in every part of her life, and I feel like that is expressed in this post. You perspective of these three elements is quite unique, and you always search for a deeper meaning rather than going with the obvious. I highly respect your views and am always intrigued by what you have to say.

  3. I believe that there is never really truth, outside the realm of conventional mathematics and science. Your concise explanation of truth truly exhibits my opinions on the matter. I believe that opinion is a better word for what most consider to be truth because everything is an interpretation, no matter how many people consider it to be their truth. Instead of saying truth, I believe purity would be a better word because what is pure is unadulterated and cannot have lie in them. A pure ideal, interpretation, or perhaps finding is the closest thing humanity will ever have to something that is what we currently consider as "truth" or "truthful".
